FUTURE OF FRAGRANCE EXHIBITION FOR PALAIS DE TOKYO

Imaging the role fragrance will play in expressing individuality in the year 2050

The future world conditions are suffocating, physically and mentally. The individual is easily masked by uniformity and seeks an outlet that allows for relief in the sameness. The biomorphic bird allows individuals to liberate themselves from monotony: it is both an encapsulation of the desire to escape and an expression of the inner self. The bird is a drone whose wings will flap and glide identically to a living bird in nature. The Tego uses AI to read the users decisions and actions, forming a companionship so that it can identify when the user needs the scent. When the owner of the object leaves home to venture into public, the bird is aware of the movements and follows; wherever the user goes, the bird is not far behind emitting the owner’s customized scent. In the future world, home is a sanctuary and the bird embodies the comfort that home provides to the user.

Constantly released scent is emitted as a mist that arrays into a shield ( inspired by ancient Greek practices of scent to fight epidemics). The shield is an invisible protection for the user on several levels: it acts as a chemical barrier but also prevents mental distress The base notes of the fragrance will be antimicrobial elements and the top notes will be unusual blends to mirror the individual. The sense of calm the individual feels when carrying this shield out of the home encourages autonomy and confidence in the user when coming face to face with the future world obstacles. The Tego establishes disruption in the routine and homogeneity that may define the future world, making way for the individual expression to emerge and soar.

This is a speculative design project.
